The Gulf Fritillary butterfly has a wing-span of about 2 1/2" to 3 3/4" and covers a range from South America north through Central America, Mexico, and the West Indies to the southern United States, including Southern California through Texas and Florida.

These butterflies prefer to feed on the nectar of lantana, shepherd's needle, cordias, composites, and others.  Not considered endangered.
