Golden Lion Tamarins currently number only about 600 individuals in the wild and are an endangered species.  These animals are only found in a small area northeast of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.  Small, and active, these animals live for about 15 years in the wild, but may live over 30 years in zoos.  The Golden Lion Tamarins subsist on a diet consisting primarily of fruits and insects, but will also eat other small creatures like small birds and lizards, as well as snails and spiders.
