Richard Mitchell has been an
amateur landscape and nature photographer since acquiring his first
Kodak Brownie camera at 8 years old. Cameras (and Richard) have
changed a bit since then!
Richard is a professional
biologist, working as a professional in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry
since 1983, and has numerous hobbies and passions including
photography, hiking, camping, canoeing, woodworking, and
calligraphy. Richard lives Woodinville, Washington with his wife (a
veterinarian), 3 sons, 2 dogs and 2 cats. Richard and his family
enjoy camping and hiking in the great Northwest.
Since 2003, Richard has been
shooting almost exclusively in digital format, initially with a
Canon 10D digital SLR camera (6.3 megapixel), and more recently with a
Canon 5D, an excellent 12.8 megapixel professional digital SLR.
Richard uses a variety of low-dispersion optics
(Canon “L” lenses) and other specialized lenses like the Canon 100mm
f/2.8 macro lens. After acquiring a top-quality Epson 7600
wide-format (24”) printer in 2004, Richard received numerous
requests to purchase his photos, which led him to establish Touching
Light Photography in early 2005. Richard has attended
workshops and lectures by
John Shaw,
Robert Glenn Ketchum,
Joe Englander, and
Art Wolfe. Most recently,
Richard has expanded his repertoire to offer full studio photography
services, at his studio, or on location. In addition, Richard
provides architectural photography and photography for retail
businesses.
In addition to selling his
photos locally, and internationally, Richard has donated numerous
prints to local school auctions to help raise funds necessary to
enrich the lives of our school-age children. Richard intends his
www.touchinglightphotography.com website
to become a resource for elementary school children, and so he his
prints are free for children under age 18 to use in printed form for
school projects.
