TOUCHING LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY

RICHARD MITCHELL, PHOTOGRAPHER

Hi!  I'm Richard Mitchell (bio), and I run Touching Light Photography as my "second profession".  I am fortunate to live on a few acres of land near Woodinville, Washington,  close to the Cascade Range of mountains.  I share my life with my wife (a veterinarian), 3 sons, 2 dogs and a Border Collie (Border Collies don't consider themselves dogs), a couple of cats and occasional stray neighborhood kids.   I've had a lifelong passion for camping, hiking, and for experiencing and photographing nature.   Over time I've bumped into some great landscape photographers including John Shaw, Robert Glenn Ketchum, Joe Englander, and Bob Kim.  I've also recently had the good fortune of meeting Art Wolfe (a well-known Northwest landscape photographer who is also a kind and wonderful person!), and share Art's concern for protecting our wild places.  If you like mountain photography, be sure you visit G Dan Mitchell | Photography as well (yes, he's my brother, and an excellent photographer!)

Please also see my photoblog at www.touchinglightphotography.blogspot.com for recent photos.

My son Eric has recently started getting serious about photography, and a few of his first photos are posted here.

Recently, my photos (see photos on display here) were selected by the Washington State Lt. Governor's Art Council for display in the office of Lt. Governor Brad Owen in the Washington State Capitol in Olympia during the 2007 legislative session (from February - April 2007).  Here is the press release.

I print all large format prints (8" x 10" and larger) on Epson Premium Luster Professional (luster finish) paper or Somerset Velvet paper (matte finish) using a professional Epson 7600 wide-format printer and genuine Epson pigment-based Ultrachrome inks for archival print durability.  I'm currently shooting with a 12.8 megapixel Canon 5D digital SLR using a variety of professional "L" lenses and specialty lenses (including the Canon 17-40 f4.0L, 24-70 f2.8L, 100-400 f4.5-5.6L, and a few specialty lenses such as the 24mm f3.5 tilt-shift lens, 100mm f2.8 macro, and 50mm f1.4).  I also operate an 800 sq. ft. studio with full lighting control and numerous backdrops, all of which are also applied to commercial photography.

Locally, I recommend FrameWright Custom Picture Framing (Kaewyn Gallery), 10101 Main Street, Bothell, WA 98011. for framing services, since they are friendly, competent, and care about your prints.
